NCHR MEMBER MEETS UNHCR OFFICER
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ A member of the National Commission for Human Rights (NCHR) P.Oyunchimeg received on Thursday a delegation headed by Mr Wojciech B.Trojan, a Senior Regional Protection officer United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Ms Oyunchimeg said the NCHR pays attention to the matters related to refugees who violated the borders in the light of human rights although the country has not joined the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and its Additional Protocol of 1967.
She underlined that the NCHR can cooperate with the UNHCR in several matters, for example, the NCHR needs to have the public realize that the rights of refugees must be respected in terms of international humanitarian law, and to propagandize it; also in ensuring human rights in case of the biggest disasters or accidents, in organizing trainings for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Police Department and other forces to ensure and protect rights of refugees.
The sides also discussed opportunities to collaborate in sending to Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Sudan a group of officers representing the NEMA, the Police Department and NCHR and having them studied situation of peacekeepers and getting familiarized with actions of the UN and internal bodies.
Mr Trojan said he will convey these proposals and works to the Department of the UNHCR and hoped the cooperation with the NCHR will continue.
