No Thais injured in Barcelona attack

BANGKOK, Aug 18 (TNA) – No Thai nationals were wounded in Barcelona attack when a van crashed into crowds of pedestrians on the La Rambla avenue, a top tourist destination yesterday, said the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Thai Foreign Ministry received a report from the Thai embassy in Madrid that the van crashed into the crowd Barcelona's city centre at 5.30 pm local time, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Busadee Santipitaks. The crash killed at least 13 people, leaving about 100 others injured. In a wake of the attack, Catalonia’s security agencies shut down the railway service at La Rambla street. The Thai embassy said Thai communities in Barcelona have not been affected by the incident. However, it has closely monitored the situation and warns Thai people to avoid travelling to the scene and other crowded places in the heart of the city. (TNA)
