Official Hopes Kidnapped Iranian Pilgrims Will Be Released Soon

Damascus, April 23, IRNA – Iran’s Consul General in Syria Abdolmajid Kamjoo hoped the four kidnapped Iranian pilgrims would be freed soon. Talking to IRNA here on Monday after the release of two kidnapped Iranian pilgrims which took place in Istanbul, he expressed hope that the rest of the kidnapped pilgrims be freed soon and return to their relatives in Iran. Pointing to measures taken by the Iranian embassy in Damascus to help release seven kidnapped Iranian engineers, he expressed hope that they too be freed soon. Seven Iranian engineers working in a power plant in Syria were kidnapped by armed men in Homs last December. Later in January and February 2012, two groups of Iranian pilgrims were kidnapped by armed men on their way from Halab to Damascus. Some 11 of them were released in March while another five were freed later on the same month./end
