Pakistan Committed To Self-Determination For People Of Kashmir
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Pakistan is committed to extending full
moral, diplomatic and political support to the people of Kashmir for the
realisation of their right to self-determination, its envoy, here, says.
"Our position is based on the support for a just cause and on principles
recognised by the international community and enshrined in the UN Charter," the
High Commissioner for Pakistan in Malaysia, Masood Khalid said at a seminar,
here, to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day.
In his speech Masood also highlighted the significance of Kashmir Solidarity
Day and Pakistan’s efforts to secure a solution to the long-standing Kashmir
issue, the Pakistan's High Commission's press attache Hamid Raza Khan said
in a statement Monday.
He said speakers at the seminar called for concerted efforts to awaken the
world’s conscience and raise support for the just cause of the people of Kashmir
waiting for more than six decades now to realise their goal of
self-determination.
The seminar was held under the aegis of the Global Peace Mission,
Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement-ABIM) and the
High Commission for Pakistan in Malaysia to mark Kashmir Solidarity Day,
observed all over the world on Feb 5 each year to show solidarity and support
for the people of Kashmir.
The speakers also called on the international community to help resolve the
issue of Kashmir to secure peace and stability in the region.
They said in an age where human freedoms were being watched and secured by
the civilised world through diplomatic means and dialogue, the Kashmiris were
being deprived of their basic rights and awaiting for long, a just and lasting
solution.
Among the speakers were ABIM secretary-general Mohammad Raimi Abdul Rahim,
academician Prof Dr Ruhanas Harun, Global Peace Mission Malaysia CEO Azlan Mohd
Shariff and Rafiq Fazal Din from the Malaysian Centre for Policy Research, the
statement said.
