PARLIAMENT TO ESTABLISH WORKING GROUP ON AIR POLLUTION

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Parliament Speaker M.Enkhbold expressed his stance on what could be the most cruicial steps to decrease the amount of smoke and made some proposals. He said, “Smoke in the air continues to be a worrying problem that needs attention. This problem calls for unified policy and actions of all people regardless of their positions and political preferences. A lot of requests, messages and calls are incoming from citizens on this matter. It is only right that people are frustrated. Growing number of cases of lung-related ailments is the direct result of air pollution. This in turn puts pressure on medical service providers. Over MNT 20 billion were allocated from State Budget in 2018 to provide households with electricity at the discounted tariff and some more sources for purchase of equipments that decrease pollution and increase air quality." The Speaker proposed to establish a working group to monitor the process and review implemented actions in compliance with Parliament's directions given to the Government on the matter in fall of 2016 as well as to develop proposals and recommendations for necessary actions. The working group will be established by ordinance of the Parliamentary Speaker, comprising of representatives from all Standing Committees.
