PARLIAMENTARY SESSION IN DELAY

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Was to start at 10 am on Thursday, a plenary meeting of the parliamentary session fail to gather because of a protest of MPs from the Mongolian People's Party (MPP) and its supporters. They are protesting against the decision of the General Election Commission (GEC) that enabled G.Batkhuu and D.Zorigt from the Democratic Party (DP) to become winners of the parliamentary election which ran at the 10th constituency this June. The protesters stated that they cannot accept this decision and left the parliamentary session. An MP from the MPP S.Batbold hopes that Mongolian people understand the protest. “Our party was a political force to give the biggest contribution to strengthening of the democratic values in Mongolia, and will always maintain this principle. As we are a minority now, we need to firmly adhere to this principle in order to strengthen the democracy,” he said. “A step has been made back from the democracy, its basic values are ignored, it is always said that voters' choice must the priority but now it has become an empty talk, that is why we are strongly protesting against the GEC's politically-affected decision,” he said. Another MP Su.Batbold says a vile thing is about to occur in the history of Mongolia's democracy as neglecting the people's choice or changing it by a political order. A head of the Democratic Party's (DP) faction at parliament D.Erdenebat met the protesters and asked them to solve the problem together in the parliamentary hall. He stressed that the DP had not influenced on making such a decision. B.Khuder
