Peaceful Assembly Bill Gives People Opportunity To Voice Out Views
BANGI (Selangor, Malaysia), Nov 21 (Bernama) -- The Peaceful Assembly Bill
2011 which will be tabled in Parliament next week, is aimed at giving the public
the opportunity and space to gather peacefully and express their views, said
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the bill to be tabled by Prime Minister Najib Razak was yet another
manifestation of the government's seriousness to bring about political
transformation in a holistic mannner.
"It's best that we wait for the tabling where the prime minister will speak
on the bill and explain the rationale behind it.
"The content of the bill will include the rules and procedures with regard
to peaceful assembly.
"I hope this will be well accepted by the public," Muhyiddin said after
presenting the national-level Ilham Desa Awards, here, on Monday.
On Sunday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Aziz said
the bill to replace Section 27 of the Police Act would be tabled in Parliament
next week.
In September, Najib announced that the government would review this legal
provision and replace it with a new one.
In his special address in conjunction with Malaysia Day, the prime minister
also announced that the government would repeal the Restricted Residence Act
1933 and Banishment Act 1959, which were duly repealed last month, as well as
the Internal Security Act (ISA) 1960.
The ISA is expected to be tabled for repeal in March, 2012.
