Pentagon's Final Goal, To Destabilize Mideast: Journalist

Moscow, Aug 11, IRNA – Editor-in-chief of Russian magazine 'Geo-politics' Leonid Savin said that Pentagon aims to aggravate Syrian crisis to destabilize the Middle East and eventually control the country as it did in Libya.
In an interview with state Radio 'Voice of Russia' here on Friday, Savin said that the US leads the acts against Syria and western countries and a number of Arab states in the region are cooperating and participating with Washington in the implementation of anti-Syrian conspiracies.
Concerning the resignation of Kofi Annan as special envoy of the UN secretary general in Syrian affairs, Savin said that possibly western countries will support someone, as substitute for Annan, who follows their stances on Syrian issue and such an approach had been seen before in other issues.
He continued if a person is appointed as representative of the UN in Syria affairs and takes stances different from those of US, Washington will accuse the UN as being unable to solve the problem.
He stressed that most of people who are fighting against central government of Syria receive financial and logistic support and in recent conflict in Aleppo a large number of alien agents, including Turkish forces, were killed.
Savin added that a number of Islamic extremists from Palestine and Britain also participated in the conflict and this indicated that war in Syria is not a civil war, but armed groups by the west and some Arab states financial support have entered into the conflict.
The Russian news expert said that Russia must support legal regime of Syria for three reasons; first changing Syrian regime will cause loss of Russian position in the region of Mediterranean Sea, because the only Russian military base is in Syria.
The second reason is that in case of change in Syria, Russia will lose its reputation as a country which is able to take decisions in hard situation and the third reason is that Moscow loses Syria as a confident ally.
Savin said that if Russia behaves in Syria like Libya, it will lose its national interest there as it happened in Libya./end
