PERMANENT REP ATTENDS ARF SENIOR OFFICIALS MEETING

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation headed by Ts.Jambaldorj, the Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) participated in the regular ARF Senior Officials Meeting held June 8-9 in Yangon, Myanmar. The participants from 27 countries shared views and expressed their positions over specific matters on the regional and international security including the Korean Peninsula, territorial disputes in South China Sea, terrorism, situations in Afghanistan and Thailand and elections in Ukraine. In his speech, Mr Jambaldorj congratulated Myanmar on successfully chairing the ASEAN in 2014, and reaffirmed that Mongolia wants to become a partner of the ASEAN Dialogue. He hoped that Mongolia will participate for the first time in the ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting at an invitation of its chairman. In addition, the Mongolian side put forward a proposal to run a measure together with an ASEAN member state on one of the topics of disaster prevention, rescuing, peacekeeping or cyber security, within the 2014-2015 ARF inter-session years. The Mongolian delegation held meetings with officials from Russia, China, USA, Australia, New Zealand and the European Union.
