PG Littoral States Should Avoid Co-op With Big Powers: Rahimi

Bushehr, May 1, IRNA – First Vice-President Mohammad Reza Rahimi said that the Persian Gulf littoral states should avoid cooperating with the big powers in the region and also to avoid jeopardizing the Persian Gulf’s security by making baseless allegations. Rahimi made the remarks on Sunday in an international conference held on the occasion of Persian Gulf National Day in southern Bushehr province. “The global arrogance is afraid of Islamic Iran’s becoming a role-model for Muslim nations of the world. They know that if the Islamic thought dominates the world, then there will be no place for their evil and hegemonic policies in the world,” he added. Rahimi pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to defend the Persian Gulf region. “In the early 1960s, the Britons proposed a fake terminology for the Persian Gulf with the aim of creating a rift between Iran and some Arab countries. This is while before that date nothing had been said about the Persian Gulf and in all documents and deeds the waterway was referred to a Persian Gulf,” he added. Rahimi termed the Persian Gulf as one of the strategic locations in the world that is under attention of all global powers, particularly the arrogant powers. “Since a major part of the world’s oil and gas reserves are located in the Persian Gulf and about 30 percent of the world’s crude oil is procured form the Persian Gulf, this region will be regarded as even a more important strategic location in the coming decades. Rahimi left Bushehr for Tehran after attending the international conference held on the occasion of the Persian Gulf National Day and delivering a speech at the conference./end
