PM U.KHURELSUKH ADDRESSES PARLIAMENT SESSION

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/ At the parliament’s plenary meeting on February 2, Prime Minister U.Khurelsukh reported about the implementation of the State Policy on development of animal husbandry.
In his report, the PM said, “The State Policy on foods and agriculture stated to implement 17 objectives in directions to develop production of animal husbandry and create and improve a structure of preparing and supplying raw materials, 6 objectives in improving personnel capacity. Presently, the implementation of the State Policy on foods and agriculture brings some effective outcomes.”
According to the report of PM U.Khurelsukh, the production of animal husbandry amounted to MNT3.5 billion by early of 2017, making up 10.3 percent GDP and 84.2 percent of agricultural production. As of preliminary results of the 2017 nationwide livestock census, 66.2 million head of livestock was counted, with an increase of 7.6 percent against the previous year. In animal husbandry, 400 thousand tons of meat, 891.5 million liters of milk, 38.6 thousand tons of wool and cashmere and 14 million pieces of leathers and hides were produced in 2016. Mongolia earned USD494.8 million from exports of main agricultural products and raw materials in 2017, with an increase of about 20 percent against the previous year.
He also mentioned about the adoption of the laws on livestock gene pool, livestock health and other related laws in December, 2017, and actions and progress of government’s ‘Mongolian Livestock’ Program.
Moreover, U.Khurelsukh introduced measures taken within the three objectives of the State Policy on Herders. The measures include a provision of 83.3 thousand herding households with solar energy sources, funded with the World Bank’s non-refundable assistance, and involvement of about 60 percent of total herders in the medical check-ups and diagnosis according to mobile ambulatory care service for herders.
In the end, the PM emphasized, “Agriculture, in particular animal husbandry development is one of priorities of the government policy and action plans of the government. The Government of Mongolia will work hard to realize objectives to develop animal husbandry and farming sectors thoroughly.”
