PM:Schools in Thai far South should reopen next week
BANGKOK, December 15 (TNA) - Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra says that all the closed schools in Thailand's violence-plagued far South should be reopened next Monday, following more tightened security measures provided to teachers in the troubled region.
Speaking during her TV and radio weekly programme on Saturday morning, Yingluck insisted it is needed that concerned government agencies provide security to local teachers right after they leave their houses until they reach their schools.
Yingluck noted that security for school teachers in the Thai deep South is a worrisome issue and responsible government agencies are to map out plans how to provide sufficient security to them in order to restore their confidence, amid insufficient teachers in the southernmost Thai region.
The Thai prime minister acknowledged that her government plans to provide improved security to teachers in the troubled southern border region by offering buses to transport them and installing more closed surveillance cameras.
The Federation of Teachers in Three Southern Border Provinces resolved earlier this week to close all schools in the Thai deep South as of December 13-14 to allow local security agencies to review their operations in providing security to local teachers, after two female school directors were killed by suspected insurgents in Pattani Province.
