PRESIDENT MEETS LEADER OF UNODC
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ With the official visit to Austria, the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj Wednesday held a meeting with Mr Yuri Fedotov, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna.
The latter appreciated an active participation of Mongolia in many important initiatives on main purposes of the UNODC such as highlighting hazards of drugs, backing international activities for combating the industry of drugs, preventing drugs-related crimes.
In response, the leader of Mongolia expressed a willingness to support the UNODC’s anti-drugs measures. Several Mongolians have been pronounced capital punishment in China due to drug-related crimes, "so I want to emphasize an importance of the drugs hazards propaganda".
After this meeting, Mr Elbegdorj legged the UNODC headquarters-based drugs laboratory. He said Mongolia is focusing on setting up such laboratories at border checkpoints in order to inspect and detect all types of drugs. He agreed with the UNODC to start a cooperation between the Presidential Office and the UNODC in near future in these matters. They also concurred to implement specific projects on eliminating trans-boundary livestock diseases in the line of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) such as reducing outbreaks of foot-and-mouth and others and producing related vaccines. If it is done, Mongolia will export meat and meat products not only to its neighbours, but also to other countries.
