PRESIDENT: MONGOLIA HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE BECAUSE IT’S AN OPEN SOCIETY

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj met with journalists during his working trip to Dornod aimag on April 24-25, and delegates of Mongolian News and Eagle TVs and correspondents working in Dornod, Sukhbaatar, Khentii, Umnugobi, Dornogobi and Gobisumber aimags partook. “The purpose of our trip to Dornod was to award the Order of Sukhbaatar”, said the President at the beginning of the meeting. In 1943, the Red Banner of Labor was presented to Dornod aimag which has seen 9.6 percent economic growth in 2016. “From time to time, Dornod aimag has made a huge contribution to defending Mongolia’s independence and sovereignty, neighboring with both Russia and China, Mongolia’s two neighbors”, the President remarked. According to the President, Dornod aimag has maintained a top position in terms of human development index on the national level, and ranks 2nd in terms of its business environment. The journalists addressed a number of topics such as ecological education, industrial development, outcome of the President’s foreign policy, defense sector, local development fund, judicial reform, Mongolian pride and cultural preservation, abolishment of capital punishment and more in response to which President Ts.Elbegdorj gave elaborate answers, reflecting on his tenure as head of state of Mongolia for the last 8 years. He said, “President’s budget stood at MNT 11.6 billion in 2013, and now it is MNT 4.5 billion. One third of my activities during the last 8 years addressed cultural and environmental spheres. I have initiated more than 30 bills during my tenure, about 10 of which were rejected by Parliament”. “I have spent 27 years in politics, and worked as President for 8 years. If you genuinely care about the nation, Presidency makes you think about many things including challenges facing the country, solutions and global approach to the similar problems”, he added. “I personally have faith in the future of Mongolia which is bright because open societies move forward”, the President remarked, and thanked the journalists and the organizers for the meeting.
