Pupils convene on Central Square to fight against smoking

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A parade of 999 pupils took place on the Central Square of Ulaanbaatar to back the tobacco control law. This event is marked on occasion of the World No Tobacco Day which is celebrated annually by the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 31. The parade included the pupils from the “Leader” club at the Union of Mongolian Pupils (UMP) and three city schools. The pupils raised boards with mottos “Let’s be an athlete instead of smoker” and “Please save us from smoke”. They protested a proposal for altering the current tobacco law to lessen the no-smoking area to 250 meters away from educational organizations. The parade was attended by L.Erdenechimeg MP. She talked about hazards of smoking. “The present law on tobacco control must be kept as it is," she said. The parade was supported by the unofficial group of women MPs, Ministry of Health, World Health Organization, the City’s Police Department and Health Center.
