Russia, US agree on bringing closer positions of sides in Mideast, Ukraine conflicts

WASHINGTON, May 10. /TASS/. Moscow and Washington have agreed on bringing closer the positions of the sides in the Palestinian-Israeli and Ukrainian conflicts, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said after talks with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and US President Donald Trump on Wednesday. "We have held a bilateral meeting with Rex Tillerson today and together with him we have just had a meeting with US President Trump," Lavrov said. "We discussed, first of all, our interaction on the international scene. It was confirmed that despite all the well-known difficulties, our countries can and must continue jointly solving key problems that are on the international agenda," Lavrov said. The Russian foreign minister noted that apart from discussing the Syrian settlement, the sides also focused on the problems faced by the international community and where Russia jointly with the United States and other parties "can really play a positive role." According to Lavrov, the talks mentioned the Palestinian-Israeli settlement, the situation in Afghanistan, and also the fulfillment of the Minsk accords on the political settlement in east Ukraine. "We agreed to continue working contacts on these issues and look for ways to bring closer the positions of all the parties concerned," the Russian foreign minister said. Read more
