Salehi Stresses Need To Help Syrian Govt Execute Reforms

Tehran, Feb 28, IRNA – Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi stressed need to help the government of President Bashar al-Assad to carry out reforms in Syria. Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with the representative of the UN Secretary-General and also the Arab League in Syrian affairs Kofi Annan on the sidelines of the 19th UN Human Rights Council which is underway in Geneva, Switzerland. Pointing to the strategic position of Syria in the region, Salehi said foreign interventions would only deteriorate internal problems in the country. He also outlined Iran’s views regarding Syrian developments and underlined the need to find solutions to the problems. Annan briefed Salehi on his mission to work out solutions to Syrian problems and also exchanged views with him on the issue./end
