SPEAKER MEETS UK AMBASSADOR
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Parliament Speaker Z.Enkhbold received on Friday a delegation led by
Mr Christopher Charles Stuart, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UK to Mongolia.
Congratulating Mr Stuart on being appointed the UK Ambassador to Mongolia, the Speaker underlined that the UK established the diplomatic relations with Mongolia in 1963, becoming thus one of very first western nations to recognize Mongolia's independence.
The Speaker mentioned that mutual visits have been successfully organized recent years, for example, the State Head of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj paid a working visit to the UK, also he participated in opening ceremony of the London 2012 Summer Olympic Games, the Minister of Foreign and Commonwealth Office Mr Jeremy Browne visited Mongolia in 2011.
A collaboration between the legislative bodies is also fruitful, ne noted and said the State Great Khural re-established its Mongolia-Britain inter-parliamentary group this year under chairmanship of R.Amarjargal MP.
In turn, Mr Stuart expressed satisfaction with becoming the Ambassador to Mongolia, and emphasized an importance of the intensive cooperation in the trade and economic sectors for expanding the mutual understanding and the bilateral cooperation. He noted there is a big opportunity to widen the multi-lateral cooperation in the fields of education, culture and sciences.
The Speaker said the UK is one of the biggest trade partners of Mongolia in Europe, and that Mongolia highly appreciates its relations with the Great Britain. Mongolia wants to augment investments from the UK, to intensify the education sector's cooperation by increasing scholarships for Mongolian students.
Mentioning that Mongolia decided to introduce the British Cambridge system of education in the secondary school programs, the Speaker requested Mr Stuart to pay attention to it.
Z.Enkhbold hoped that Mr Stuart will actively cooperate with Mongolia in organization of measures in frames of the 50th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations to be celebrated for a whole year.
