"Sukhumbhand" to run for second-term gubernatorial race
BANGKOK, December 28 (TNA) - Thailand's main opposition Democrat Party has resolved to send incumbent Bangkok Governor M.R. Sukhumbhand Patibatra to run for the upcoming gubernatorial election for his second term.
Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva announced the decision, earlier unanimously agreed by his party, at a press conference in the capital on Friday.
Abhisit, a former Thai premier, said the main reasons that Sukhumbhand has been chosen to represent the party for the second time is his in-depth experiences and understanding in the capital's problems and his ability to work with all mechanisms, both in the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and in the government, taking aside political issues.
Meanwhile, Sukhumbhand thanked his party for giving him the trust, promising that he would work harder at the best of his ability, if re-elected, to solve pending problems in the capital, despite their complications. (TNA)
