Thai-Myanmar top brasses meet in Khon Kaen

BANGKOK, Aug 29 (TNA) – Thai and Myanmar top brasses discussed military cooperation at the 5th Thailand- Myanmar High Level Committee (HLC) meeting in Thai northeastern province of Khon Kaen. Thai Supreme Commander Surapong Suwanna-at and Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar co-chaired the HLC meeting at the Avani Khon Kaen Hotel & Convention Centre between Aug 28-30. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing cooperation between both Armed Forces for peace and security. During the meeting, they discussed plans to strengthen the relations between the two Armed Forces, including the exchange of visits, the military goodwill sports activities. The discussion touched upon a number of important issues, including suppression of narcotic drugs boundary demarcation, and the review of the MOU on the Establishment of the Regional Border Committee (RBC). The two countries also agreed to expand cooperation next year in the fields of military medicine and cultural exchange and Myanmar will host the sixth HLC meeting. Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and delegates will pay a courtesy call on Privy Council President and Statesman Gen Prem Tinsulanon and Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha and Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan on Wednesday.
