Thai police chief to seek lifting security law

BANGKOK, November 25 (TNA) - Thailand’s police chief Pol. Gen. Adul Saengsingkaew will seek Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s approval Monday for the lifting of the Internal Security Act (ISA), which has placed inner Bangkok under heavy security since Saturday’s anti-government rally. Pol. Maj. Gen. Piya Uthayo, spokesman of the Royal Thai Police, gave the update Sunday at a meeting of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order. The meeting, headed by Pol. Gen. Adul, agreed to revoke four orders issued by the Centre during the rally, probably by Sunday evening, he said, adding that police would dismantle barriers on two roads and at the Royal Plaza where the rally was held. It is understood that traffic in the area as well as in front of the Government House would return to normal once the barriers were removed. Meanwhile, police officials said they were gathering photographic evidence of Saturday’s demonstration, which would be used to lay charges against those who had violated the ISA. (TNA)
