Training on biological weapons held

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) held two-day training on April 28-29 concerning ensuring implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention and Chemical Weapons Convention. Co-organized by the MFA Department of International Organizations and the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs in Ulaanbaatar, the training attracted delegates and officials from the Ministries, agencies, scientific agencies and civil society organizations. It also gathered Lars Gronvald, a cooperation service chief at the EU Representative; Karin Hjalmarsson, a political officer at the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs; and other officials. At the workshop, some ten reports were delivered about history of chemical and biological weapons, origins of the conventions on banning the weapons, their purposes, structure, general principles, national security actions of the participant states of the conventions, support and assistance for those countries and their collaboration. Furthermore, the attendees discussed matters on preparing national trained staffers for realizing the two conventions, supplying necessary facilities, working out action plans and focused on other related issues such as improving border and customs control and laboratory capacities, and receiving technical assistance from UN and other international organizations.
