Turkey an inseparable part of Europe historically and in future, says FM Davutoglu
ANKARA (A.A) - January 4, 2012 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Wednesday that Turkey was an inseparable part of Europe historically and in the future.
Speaking to the AA on his expectations in 2012, Davutoglu said that it was crucial to be part of the domestic discussions within the European Union (EU).
We should not watch the domestic discussions from outside. We have to be part of the discussions in order to discuss the future of Europe, Davutoglu said.
Asked if Greek Cypriot term presidency over defense and security in Europe in January would have an impact on Turkey's troops in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo, Davutoglu said that Turkey's military presence in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo were a result of Turkey's responsibility to these countries.
No one should expect a crisis between Turkey and Bosnia as well as between Turkey and Kosovo on this matter, Davutoglu said.
Touching on Iran's nuclear program, Davutoglu said that Turkey wanted the nuclear negotiations with Iran to begin as soon as possible.
Regarding Syria, Davutoglu said that it was impossible to resist the decision of a people who wanted to determine its own future.
Mr. Bashar al-Assad and his close colleagues must do what is reasonable and pave the way for elections in Syria, Davutoglu said.
Ahmet Davutoglu will pay a two-day visit to Tehran on Wednesday and Thursday.
