Turkey's chief Muslim cleric meets U.S. religious freedoms commission head
ANKARA (A.A) - 23.02.2011 - Turkey's Religious Affairs Director General Mehmet Gormez on Wednesday met with Leonard A. Leo, chairman of the United States Commission for International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), in the Turkish capital, Ankara.
Gormez briefed Leo and an accompanying U.S. delegation about religious freedoms in Turkey and functions of the Religious Affairs Directorate General.
Gormez said the directorate general closely monitored difficulties faced by religious minorities in Turkey, adding, "we would consider the slightest pressure on the religious freedoms of minorities in Turkey as it was exerted on our own religion. There is no excuse for limiting religious freedoms."
