Turkish president says has "no expectations in politics" after his term ends

ANKARA (A.A) - December 28, 2011 - Turkey's President Abdullah Gul has hinted he would seek no political office after his term at the top Turkish office ended. "I have no other concern than fulfilling my duties as the president. I have no expectations, no calculations regarding politics," Gul told a televised interview Tuesday on private Channel 24.       As to when Gul's term of office ends is an ongoing debate in Turkey. Gul assumed the office in August 2007 when the president's term was seven years. But an October 2007 amendment reduced the term to five years. "We need a fair amount of predictability in this, whether it would five years or seven. As the president, it would be inappropriate for me to make any comments on my term of office and I hope a decision would be made soon," he said.
