UNESCO chief confirms close partnerships with Thailand
BANGKOK, Aug 30 (TNA) – The director-general of UNESCO called on the prime minister and confirmed its close cooperation with Thailand at all levels.
Irina Bokova, the director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting occurred during her official visit to Thailand from Aug 27 to 29.
On the occasion, the prime minister thanked the UNESCO director-general for her respect to the late King Rama IX at the Grand Palace and for UNESCO designating HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador in 2005 for the princess’s work for underprivileged children and youths in Southeast Asia.
The prime minister also said that Thailand and UNESCO had close cooperation at all levels and Thailand had supported UNESCO’s activities for 68 years. He also thanked UNESCO for praising the application of sufficiency economy philosophy in Thailand.
Thailand together with UNESCO had conducted public education projects for a long time and Thailand was ready to cooperate with UNESCO to accomplish Sustainable Development Goals, especially education-related ones, of the United Nations, Gen Prayut said.
The UNESCO director-general said that UNESCO was a partner of Thailand and was ready to promote its cooperation with the country on educational, scientific and cultural development. The development would create knowledge-based societies and economic opportunities and prepare people for present and future challenges, she said. (TNA)
