US encourages Thailand to continue effort to tackle human trafficking

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) – US ambassador to Thailand encouraged Thailand to continue its effort to tackle human trafficking problems after the kingdom remains on Tier 2 Watch List of the 2017 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report, released earlier this week. The US embassy in Bangkok yesterday celebrated the Independence Day function, falling on July 4 at a hotel in Bangkok. US Ambassador to Thailand Glyn Davies said during the event that Thailand and the US had long-standing good relations and cooperation. Next year would also mark the 200th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Davies also said about the 2017 TIP Report, in which Thailand remains on Tier 2 of the Watch List that the US had seen attempts made by the Thai government and agencies to tackle human trafficking problems. If Thailand continues its efforts to do so, the ranking will be revised up in the future definitely and the US will continue to support Thailand to crack down human trafficking, he said Meanwhile, the US ambassador expressed his condolence for the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej in last October. He said His Majesty had played a vital role in deepening ties between the two countries. (TNA)
