Prince Talal Prize Allocates USD 1 Million for Decent Work and Economic Growth

Riyadh, May 22, SPA -- Chaired by Prince Abdulaziz bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of the Arab Gulf Program for Development (AGFUND) and Chairman of the Prize Committee, the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development Committee held its 24th meeting.
During the meeting, the committee announced that four projects won the Prince Talal International Prize for Human Development for 2022 in the field of “decent work and economic growth,” the eighth goal of sustainable development, among the 108 projects nominated for the prize in its four branches, of which 54 qualified for arbitration.
The value of the prize is USD 1 million, granted annually by AGFUND for pioneering projects that have a positive impact on local, regional, and international communities.
The prizes won for 2022 projects included a World Bank’s Development Finance (DFi) project, implemented by the World Bank in Nigeria, dedicated to projects of U.N., international and regional organizations, amounting to USD 400,000.
The “Gaza Emergency Cash for Work and Self-Employment Support Project,” implemented by the Palestinian NGO Development Center in Palestine and devoted to national NGO projects, won another prize worth USD 300,000.
A third prize, worth USD 200,000, was awarded for the “Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development in Egypt (DT4STE)” project, implemented by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MCIT) in the Arab Republic of Egypt and devoted to projects of government ministries, agencies, and public, social-business, and private-sector institutions to support the social sector.
The “Jepseger Women's Employment Program,” implemented by David Kogo in Kenya, won the prize for projects funded or implemented by individuals, amounting to USD 100,000.
The prize committee announced the selection of Goal 15 of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, “Life on Land,” as the theme for the prize for 2023. It calls for protecting wild ecosystems, combating desertification, and stopping land degradation and loss of diversity.
