Qatar ExxonMobil Open: Felix Auger First Quarter-Finalist

 

 

Doha, February 22 (QNA) - Canadian Felix Auger became the first to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2023 Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis tournament, after defeating Australian Jason Kubler (2-1) 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 today.

    In the most prominent matches of the second round German Alexander Zverev will play against British Andy Murray, Russian Andrey Rublev will face Dutch Tallon Griekspoor and Russian Daniil Medvedev will play against Britain's Liam Brodie.

    In another match held in the doubles category, the Arab duo consisting of Qatari Mubarak Shanan and Tunisian Malek Jaziri lost (0-2) 4-6, 2-6 to the duo consisting of the Dutch Robin Haase and Matwe Middelkoop. 

Jordanian Abedallah Shelbayh lost narrowly yesterday in the main round competitions (1-2) 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to South Korean SoonWoo Kwon.   

    The three players, Mubarak Shanan, Malik Jaziri and Abedallah Shelbayh, participated in the tournament competitions, after the Qatari Federation granted them wildcards to support Arab players and provide them with opportunities to participate in the Qatar ExxonMobil Championship, one of the important tournaments in the Professional Tennis Players Association schedule.
