Qatari Newspapers Editorials
Doha, March 12 (QNA) - In their editorials Sunday, Qatari newspapers highlighted a number of local topics, including the Shura Council's submission of a request to include the criminalization of contempt of religions, as an emergency item on the agenda of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the Ministry of Labour's launch of a new package of e-services related to the management of work permits, as part of the Ministry's strategy to digitally transform services and provide them to the public without using paper in order to achieve excellence in performance, streamlining and expediting procedures.
The newspapers also noted that the State of Qatar has taken many measures and enacted many legislations with the aim of developing and protecting the rights of workers, as is the case with regard to the minimum wage and facilitating the transfer of workers between employers.
Al-Sharq newspaper stressed in its editorial that the Shura Council's submission of a request to include the criminalization of contempt of religions, as an emergency item on the agenda of the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is a step in the right direction towards promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies for all by combating intolerance and establishing strict legislation and laws to criminalize contempt of religions, and to respect religious and ethnic beliefs and sanctities of the various peoples of the world.
The paper considered that the general consensus on the Shura Council's request and its submission on behalf of the Arab Parliamentary Group in the discussions of the current session of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) affirm the role that parliamentary diplomacy can play in achieving the aspirations of people in various countries of the world, by exerting efforts to combat intolerance and hatred that would ignite violence and extremism in a manner that threatens security and stability around the world.
It also explained that the State of Qatar's move to include the criminalization of contempt of religion on the agenda of the Inter-Parliamentary Union came in the wake of the burning of copies of the Holy Quran by extremists under the pretext of freedom of expression, as this crime constituted a flagrant provocation to the feelings of more than a billion Muslims around the world and a deliberate targeting of tolerant Islamic sanctities and values, in addition to its flagrant violation of international principles and covenants.
In conclusion, Al-Sharq said that the State of Qatar, through its firm stance rejecting violence and terrorism, whatever the motives and reasons, has been stressing the need to promote the values of dialogue, tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and the rejection of violence and extremism, for the well-being of peoples and the achievement of security, stability and peace in various parts of the world.

Qatar is continuing to build its renaissance and achieve the aspirations of its people according to its national vision, which is based on caring for the human being, as he is the main engine for the development and building the desired renaissance, the paper added.
The paper indicated that Qatar is experiencing a comprehensive renaissance at all levels, through its continuous keenness to develop government performance, through a comprehensive review of all services provided by government entities which are always seeking to update their services, facilitate them and make them available to all, as an affirmation of the Qatari strategy aiming at digital transformation to accommodate the requirements of the times.
In this regard, the paper noted that the Ministry of Labour seeks to modernize its service system, as the new service of the Work Permits Department provides the opportunity for establishments to submit a request for a work permit application that allows them to secure a vacancy in the labour market from different categories, including the person currently residing in Qatar under the sponsorship of their families, citizens of GCC countries, permanent residence permit holders, or investors. The service enables establishments to submit a request to renew a work license and a request to cancel a work license online, without the need to visit the ministry's headquarters, external offices or government complexes.
Al-Raya concluded by drawing attention to the many benefits that will be achieved by launching the new package of e-services related to the management of work permits, as this will save time and effort so that it becomes possible to access services at a record time and without papers, noting that the Ministry of Labour has been working within an integrated strategy for the digital transformation of more than 80 services.
