Qatari Newspapers Editorials
Doha, April 09 (QNA) - In their editorials Sunday, Qatari newspapers shed lights on a number of local and Arab issues.
On the local arena , the newspapers highlighted the State of Qatar's keenness on education as a fundamental pillar in human building, which is the backbone of development in civilized countries.
As for the Arab issue, the newspapers referred to the occupation forces and extremist settlers' storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and their brutal assault on worshipers in its courtyards, injuring and arresting hundreds of them, in a flagrant violation of the sanctity of holy sites, freedom of worship, as well as the Geneva Convention and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Under the headline "Promising Prospects for Education in Qatar", Al-Raya daily said that the education sector in the State of Qatar is waiting for promising prospects for development over the next eight years, including students, teachers, schools and the ministry.
The paper noted the State's keenness in education as a fundamental pillar in human building, which is the backbone of development in civilized countries, indicating that for a long time, education has been at the forefront of Qatari concerns for growth and development, and Qatar has remained a source of enlightenment in spreading education on a large scale in the region and the world.
The daily explained that the main axis for the development of education in Qatar is the students who constitute the most important outputs of the educational process and its most prominent goals.
The paper said that the number of students in schools is about 350,000 distributed over more than 500 public and private schools, in addition to higher education students, whether on scholarship abroad, or in higher education institutions at home. There are also 34 institutions and universities at home that offer 378 specialized academic programs, and more than 33 research and scientific centers and institutions concerned with the environment, energy, medicine, entrepreneurship, computing, social, human and educational studies, technological innovations, and sustainable development.
In conclusion, Al-Raya underlined that the State of Qatar believes that education is one of the factors of human development that is one of the pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030, so it has given it a great priority, noting that history has shown that since the beginning of formal education in 1952 up to its embrace of national universities and branches of prestigious international universities, Qatar always deserves the best from its citizens who are able to accomplish more from the education platform.
Meanwhile, Al-Watan newspaper said that the Israeli attacks on the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque aim to obliterate the identity of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, which is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory and the capital of the State of Palestine, stressing that by all these measures, the occupation authorities ignore the fact that the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entirety, is the exclusive place of worship for Muslims.
The paper considered that the occupation forces and extremist settlers' storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, and their brutal assault on worshipers in its courtyards, injuring and arresting hundreds of them, constitute a flagrant violation of the sanctity of holy sites, freedom of worship, as well as the Geneva Convention and relevant United Nations resolutions.
It believed that any attempt to alter the historical and legal status of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque, falls within the scope of serious crimes and violations, which are capable of stoking violence, tension, instability and insecurity in the region, and that all Israeli decisions and policies aimed at altering the geographical, demographical standing of the City and undermining the historical and legal status of its holy sites are of no legal effect, null and void under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
Al-Watan called on the international community to intervene urgently to implement what it agreed upon, through the United Nations resolutions on the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, which clearly stipulate that they are occupied territories and all the measures and practices that the occupying state, Israel, undertakes, in those territories subject to international law and international humanitarian law relating to the treatment of the occupied people.
Al-Sharq newspaper said that despite the great efforts exerted to reduce escalation in the Palestinian territories, the right-wing Israeli extremist government continues to take more provocative measures that fuel tension and further inflame the situation, as Israel deployed more forces and escalated its campaigns in the West Bank, which led to the death of a Palestinian youth by the occupation forces' bullets during clashes that erupted in Azzun town, east of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank.
The newspaper said that the occupation authorities approved six master plans for the purposes of expanding a group of settlements in the West Bank, which included the construction of two new settlement neighborhoods. This confirms that the extremist occupation government not only evades its obligations to the world to stop settlement activity, but also violates all international norms and laws that criminalized settlement.
The occupation forces are still continuing their violations of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the right of Muslims to perform their religious rituals in this holy month. This repeated attacks on worshipers is an attempt to empty the Holy Mosque of worshipers, in preparation for major incursions, the paper noted.
Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the State of Qatar spares no effort through its contacts and diplomatic action with its regional and international partners to spare the region the danger of the repercussions of escalation on stability in the region and to spare civilians the devastating consequences of this escalation. This requires all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to avoid any measures or actions that fuel tension and exacerbate violence.
For its part, The Peninsula newspaper highlighted Qatar's readiness to host the 2023 Asian Cup. As Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) recently announced that eight of country’s world class venues will play host to continent’s flagship national teams’ tournament. Six of the eight stadiums announced to stage the tournament hosted the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. These include Al Janoub Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Education City Stadium and Khalifa International Stadium while Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium and Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium are the other two venues named for the tournament.
The newspaper concluded its editorial by noting that the AFC has confirmed that the official draw ceremony for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 will be held at the world-renowned Katara Opera House in Doha on May 11. The official match schedule is expected to be announced shortly after the draw. (QNA)
