Doha, April 17 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers on Monday shed light on an array of local and Arab issues, including Qatar's participation in the Arab League emergency meeting to discuss the developments in Sudan, and the launch of Hayya Platform in a new form to allow more tourists who currently need a visa to Qatar to enjoy the country's warm Arabian hospitality and diverse touristic offering.
Qatari daily Al-Arab said in its editorial that Qatar's participation in the Arab League emergency meeting at the level of permanent representatives to discuss the developments in Sudan, as well as its call on all parties to stop the fighting immediately, exercise maximum restraint, resort to the voice of reason, give priority to the public interest and spare civilians the consequences of the fighting, comes within the framework of the Qatari role in strengthening United Nations efforts to achieve peace and extinguish regional and international hotbeds of tension.
The State of Qatar has always called for dialogue and resorting to peaceful means in resolving disputes, including addressing the root causes of conflicts and achieving security, peace and development in the African continent, within the framework of its strategic partnership with the United Nations, Al-Arab said, pointing to the efforts of the Qatari diplomatic mediation which resulted in resolving a number of conflicts in Africa.
Qatar has pursued a clear policy aimed at preventing armed conflicts and resolving them by peaceful means, contributing to the international efforts aimed at conflict prevention and mediation. The State of Qatar has made great efforts to resolve disputes through mediation at the request of the concerned parties, based on the United Nations Charter and the principle of dialogue as an indispensable approach to resolving disputes between the parties. These efforts have yielded satisfactory results for all parties and were welcomed by the international community, the paper added.
Qatar has continued to support the brothers in Sudan since its successful experience in achieving peace in Darfur by hosting the peace talks which resulted in the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, Al-Arab concluded.
Meanwhile, Al-Watan warned of the mounting risks resulting from the accelerating developments in Sudan, which requires resorting to dialogue as the only way to contain this escalation which has so far claimed scores of lives and injured dozens, including innocent civilians.
Since the beginning of this month, the signing of an agreement between the military and the civilians to end the crisis in Sudan has been postponed twice due to differences over the conditions for integrating the Rapid Support Forces into the army, which is a basic clause in the peace agreement that was reached, the paper noted.
This agreement was supposed to allow the formation of a civilian government, which is a prerequisite for the return of international aid to Sudan, but instead of making progress that restores hope for all Sudanese, dangerous confrontations erupted on Saturday, raising fears of devastating consequences to unity and sovereignty of this country, the paper added.
The Arab League emergency meeting in Cairo yesterday constituted an opportunity to discuss the situation and work towards finding a solution. The meeting of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union was also an opportunity to defuse this confrontation. Hope is pinned on the wisdom of the brothers in Sudan to find an acceptable way out that ends the fighting and allows for the realization of the promised democratic transition in a way that meets the interests of all Sudanese without exception, Al-Watan concluded.

In its editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper said that for the second day in a row the brotherly Sudanese people are living under the violent escalation of the military battles taking place between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capital Khartoum and other states, during which hundreds have been killed and injured.
These battles exacerbate the situation and will take brotherly Sudan to a juncture that have serious repercussions at the internal and regional levels, the paper said.
With the worsening of the situation, and the escalation of grave concern as a result of the rapid developments on the ground in Sudan, international and regional movements (Arab and African) started to get active in an effort to avoid the worst scenarios and work to calm the escalation and urge the Sudanese parties to resort to the voice of reason and exercise maximum restraint, the paper added.
The Qatari daily referred to the emergency session held Sunday by the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent representatives, during which it called for an immediate cessation of all armed clashes in order to stop bloodshed and preserve the security and safety of civilians and the capabilities of the Sudanese people.
It also referred to the phone calls held by Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah with Sudan's military leader Abdel Fattah Al Burhan and RSF Commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as Hemedti. During the calls, the Saudi Minister called for an end to the escalation.
Egypt and South Sudan also offered to mediate between the two sides, and the African Union asked its Commission Chairman Moussa Faki Mahamat to immediately travel to Sudan to engage the parties towards a ceasefire.
Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the two parties to the conflict in the brotherly Sudan need, at this difficult time, to listen to the calls and appeals of brotherly and friendly countries, give priority to the public interest, spare civilians the consequences of fighting, pursue a policy of dialogue and resort to peaceful means to overcome differences.
