Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, February 25 (QNA) - In their editorials today, Qatari newspapers dealt with a number of various topics, ranging from local to Arab topics, as they shed light on the state of recovery that the tourism sector is currently experiencing in Qatar, the festivals and exhibitions taking place in the country, as well as the artistic performances accompanying a number of events. Regarding the Gulf affairs, the newspapers participated in the celebrations of the State of Kuwait celebration of its 62nd independence anniversary, noting the keenness of the people of Qatar to share their joy with the brothers, based on the bonds of love and brotherhood between the two brotherly peoples. Regarding Arab affairs, newspapers highlighted the great role played by Silatech in Yemen, referring to the agreement signed by the Foundation with the European Union to provide job opportunities for Yemeni youth, build their capacities and enable them to achieve their goals. In Arab affairs as well, the Palestinian issue remains the most important among the issues of the region, as the newspapers demanded an end to the crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people. The newspapers called on the UN Security Council to take a clear decision, not only condemning Israel, but also pushing for the start of serious negotiations leading to the realization of the two-state solution. For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said in its editorial today under the title "Qatar shares Kuwait's national joys" that Kuwait celebrates the independence anniversary and is experiencing its renaissance and prosperity at all levels. The month of February is a testament to the ability of Kuwait, its leadership and people, to overcome challenges and to continue building and advancing in order to achieve prosperity and sustainable development. In this context, Al-Raya reviewed the inauguration of the State of Qatar two years ago, of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Corridor, where HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, directed that the corridor be named Sabah Al-Ahmad, embodying the deep historical fraternal ties and in appreciation of his humanitarian efforts. The newspaper pointed out that the participation of the State of Qatar with Kuwait in its celebrations of its national days represents an affirmation of the depth and strength of bilateral relations, which are characterized by brotherhood and loyalty, given that Qatar and Kuwait are examples of complementarity, solidarity and cooperation between brothers, not only in the Gulf region, but also in the entire Arab region, adding that the strong Qatari-Kuwaiti relations remain a role model for relations between countries. For its part, The Peninsula said that with an amazing line-up of activities put together by Qatar Tourism, winter in Qatar has once again demonstrated that there is something for everyone. The eagerly anticipated Doha Jewellery and Watches Expo resumed this month and continues through today, February 25. In addition, Qatar Live and Shop Qatar, which both run until March 18, will also be a delight for concertgoers and shoppers. From January through March 18, the region’s and international celebrities will perform in awe-inspiring sets at Qatar Live. The newspaper added that, meanwhile Qatar Tourism (QT) has also announced new details to its ‘Feel Winter in Qatar’ campaign – an exciting, and continuous, season of family-friendly events, concerts, and exhibitions taking place throughout the country.
On the Arab issue, Al Sharq newspaper discussed the role of Silatech organization, which was founded by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, in supporting the Yemeni people. The newspaper said in its editorial today under the title "Silatech.. Youth Empowerment": The signing of an agreement between the "Silatech" organization and the European Union which will last for 4 years at a cost of USD 10.9 million, with the aim of providing job opportunities, sources of income and financial inclusion for more than 40,000 young men and women in Yemen is an important step in the direction of transformation towards providing the necessary financing for youth, building their capacities and empowering them to achieve many goals. Al Sharq pointed out that Silatech has shown over the past years its importance, wide impact and effectiveness in the economic empowerment of millions of young people around the world, which has contributed to protecting societies from many dangerous phenomena such as poverty, unemployment, terrorism and extremist tendencies. The newspaper emphasized Yemen's need for initiatives and projects that contribute to creating economic opportunities in a way that enhances the support and launch of small and medium enterprises, as it is crucial for the growth and sustainability of any economy, pushing positive social change and the ideal solution to the unemployment crisis. The newspaper pointed out that the number of institutions operating in Yemen that turn to sustainability projects is still very few, given the amount of funding allocated to direct food aid. In its editorial today, Al-Watan newspaper criticized the reaction of the UN Security Council towards the expansion of Israeli settlements on Palestinian lands, and Israel's response to international appeals to stop its violations and crimes against the Palestinian people, the latest of which was the new massacre in Nablus in the occupied West Bank, which resulted in the death of 11 Palestinians. Al-Watan called for an end to these massacres, through a clear resolution of the Security Council, which not only condemns the occupation authorities, but also pushes for the start of serious negotiations leading to the achievement of the two-state solution, and allowing the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders. The newspaper concluded by saying that the United States has repeatedly announced, as is the case with other countries of the world, its support for the two-state solution, but the real lesson lies in the actual implementation, and this will not happen without applying effective pressure to force the Israelis to engage in a peace process that alone would translate these positions. Otherwise, the situation is likely to get worse. (QNA)
