Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, May 31 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers covered a diverse range of topics in their editorials Wednesday. They emphasized Qatar's role in protecting children in conflict zones through numerous unprecedented initiatives. These efforts have gained significant international recognition, including praise from the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) Virginia Gamba for Qatar's role in child protection in conflict areas.
The newspapers also focused on Qatar's continuous support in establishing security and stability in Sudan, as Qatar has always been on the side of Sudan and its people, noting the launch of an airlift to send urgent aid, medical supplies and food, as well as evacuating stranded individuals who hold Qatari residency. These efforts aim to alleviate the humanitarian suffering resulting from conflicts and fighting in Khartoum.
Under the headline "Protecting Children in Conflict Zones," Al-Sharq newspaper said in its editorial that Qatar plays a vital and significant role in protecting children in conflict zones through numerous unprecedented initiatives. These efforts have gained significant international recognition, including praise from UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) Virginia Gamba for Qatar's role in child protection in conflict areas.
The newspaper highlighted the meeting that took place on Tuesday between HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater with HE Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (UNGA) for Children and Armed Conflict Virginia Gamba, who is visiting the country.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the conditions of Afghan refugees, especially unaccompanied children, as well as the latest developments in Sudan, and ways to take urgent steps to protect children in areas of armed conflict.
In addition to the numerous partnerships established with regional organizations and international partners to enhance the protection of children affected by conflicts, Qatar's contributions include the Education Above All (EAA) initiative, which has helped educate 10 million children in conflict-affected developing countries, the paper said, noting that Qatar played a significant role in United Nations resolutions regarding the protection of education from all forms of violence and the safeguarding of educational institutions in conflict zones. This serves as a means of protecting children in those areas from violations and ensuring their right to education. Another notable achievement is the adoption of September 9 as the International Day to Protect Education from Attack. This day was unanimously endorsed in the United Nations General Assembly and has been celebrated for the third consecutive year on Sept. 9, 2022, the newspaper noted.
Al-Sharq concluded by saying that Qatar's countless initiatives in this aspect, which stem from its strategic vision in supporting international and regional peace and security, and achieving lasting peace and development for all peoples are an affirmation of the active and active presence of the State of Qatar at the international level and its partnership with the United Nations.
On the other hand, Al-Raya newspaper said that Qatar has been actively engaged with the unfortunate events in Sudan since mid-April. It was among the first countries to call for a peaceful resolution to the crisis through dialogue, prioritizing reason and the public interest of the Sudanese people. Qatar also launched airlift to send urgent aid, medical supplies and food, as well as evacuating stranded individuals who hold Qatari residency, in order to contribute to alleviating the humanitarian suffering resulting from the conflicts and fighting in Khartoum.
Under the headline "Qatari Airlift Heals Wounds of Sudanese," the newspaper referred in its editorial to the Advisor to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari's assertion that the Qatari airbridge has been ongoing since the start of the fighting in Sudan to provide medical, relief and humanitarian aid to those affected. The total number of evacuees from Sudan who hold Qatari residency were 1,620 individuals, and the aid delivered through the airlift so far amounts to 281 tons, transported in nine flights. Qatar's commitment to supporting its brethren and healing their wounds in the face of these tragic circumstances is evident in these efforts.
The daily considered that the continuous Qatari support for the establishment of security and stability in Sudan did not stop, as Qatar has always been on the side of Sudan and its people, and laid the foundations for peace in the country in general and in the Darfur region in particular after years of fighting.
Doha has consistently declared that the unity of Sudan and its sovereignty over its land are of paramount importance to Qatar, the paper said, pointing out that the fighting among brothers will not be beneficial to anyone but will only exacerbate Sudan's problems, which it is still trying to overcome due to the political impasse. Those who wish to participate in building the new Sudan that fulfills the hopes and aspirations of the Sudanese people will not choose violence as a means to achieve their personal goals at the expense of the innocent. This beloved people will not forgive anyone who jeopardizes their security and stability and destroys their dreams of an inclusive nation without exclusion, the paper added.
Al-Raya concluded by saying that Qatar has always stood alongside its brothers, recognizing the vital role of Sudan on Arab, regional, and international levels. Sudan and its people hold a special place and great appreciation in Qatar's leadership, government, and among its people. This stems from the bonds of brotherhood, historical friendship, and shared destiny. Qatar prioritizes the humanitarian aspect and cessation of fighting in Sudan. It fully supports the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the peace process and the agreements signed in Jeddah, as part of the broader regional role of the Arab League.
In another matter, Al-Watan newspaper condemned the storming of dozens of settlers at Al-Aqsa Mosque from the Mughrabi side on Tuesday, carrying out provocative tours guarded by the Israeli police. The occupation forces also arrested two boys after raiding their parents' homes in the town of Silwad, east Ramallah.
The newspaper indicated in its editorial that the occupation forces arrested other Palestinians in Hebron Governorate, searched a number of houses in Sa'ir, beat their owners, and set up military checkpoints at Hebron's northern entrances to search citizens' vehicles.
These criminal practices and violations will not stop unless the international community steps in to advance the peace process and force the Israeli occupier to accept the two-state solution by establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Al-Watan concluded by calling on the international community to confront the dangerous and accelerating escalation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, warning of the rise of settlers on Palestinian lands and their barbaric attacks on their homes brutally and deliberately by setting fires, whether in their crops, trees or homes will inevitably lead to dangerous outcome unless rectified and intervention is taken through the issuance of new resolutions in the UN Security Council to stop the occupation authority from continuing their criminal actions against the Palestinian people.
The English-language newspaper The Peninsula highlighted the 19th edition of Project Qatar launched on Monday with over 300 exhibitors showcasing their products and services as one of the biggest trade exhibitions related to construction and related sectors.
In its editorial entitled "A platform to share and discover," the paper said that this year’s Project Qatar has a dedicated space for ‘Qatar Industries,’ where the Qatari industrial sector will be introduced to the international audience. This is expected to help the local manufacturers and service providers to offer their products and services to a wider international market.
Qatar has been hosting many big-ticket exhibitions in various sectors over the years attracting hoards of industry professionals and trade bodies. The geographical location of Qatar makes it very attractive for companies and visitors as it is easily accessible from all parts of the world, the paper highlighted.
In a few months, Qatar will be hosting another huge exhibition, the International Horticultural Exhibition Expo 2023 Doha, which will be held for six months from Oct. 2, 2023. Over 3 million visitors are expected to visit the expo.
In conclusion, The Peninsula said that hosting all these popular and well-visited expos throughout the year keeps the various sectors involved in organizing them buzzing and bodes well for the local economy. (QNA)
