Qatari Newspapers Editorials

Doha, June 03 (QNA) - In their editorials on Saturday, Qatari newspapers highlighted the telephone conversation between HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, during which they discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and develop them, in addition to the latest regional and international developments, especially in Sudan. The newspapers focused on the Sudanese crisis, which cast a shadow over the Sudanese people, adding that Qatar, since the beginning of the fighting in mid-April, called for the need for an immediate ceasefire, resorting to the voice of reason, giving priority to the supreme Sudanese interest, and activating diplomatic solutions away from clashes and the mutual bombardment, that killed and injured thousands of civilians and hundreds of thousands were forced to flee from the ongoing fighting and flee inside and outside Sudan. In its editorial on Saturday titled, "Qatari support for establishing security and stability in Sudan did not stop," Al Raya underlined that the State of Qatar gives priority to the humanitarian aspect and stopping the fighting in Sudan and fully supports all efforts that would conclude truce agreements in favor of security and stability for the Sudanese people. The paper pointed out that the State of Qatar, since the beginning of the unfortunate events in Sudan, operated an airlift to provide medical, relief, and humanitarian assistance to the affected people, noting that the continuous Qatari support for establishing security and stability in Sudan did not stop. Al Raya stressed that the time has come to work collectively to build the Sudan of tomorrow, which includes everyone, takes care of them, and advances their aspirations toward freedom, democracy, respect for human rights, economic empowerment, and activating the principle of political participation. In its editorial on Saturday titled "Supporting the Sudanese People," Al Sharq said that the phone call between His Highness and the Egyptian President reflects the great interest paid by Qatar and Egypt to mitigate the effects of the crisis experienced by the Sudanese people due to the ongoing war. The newspaper said that Qatar was at the forefront of the countries that initiated the operation of an airlift to transport urgent aid to Sudan, adding that as of last week, Qatar operated nine planes carrying 281 tons of medical and food assistance to the city of Port Sudan and those planes evacuated 1,620 people with Qatari residence permits from Sudan. The newspaper stressed that these initiatives reflect the priority that the State of Qatar gives to the humanitarian aspect and its standing by the Sudanese brothers in this ordeal, in addition to its full support for the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to calm the parties to the conflict in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Al Watan shed light on the currently-implemented infrastructure projects in line with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030. In its editorial titled "Great Aspirations," the newspaper said that the infrastructure projects in Qatar are receiving great attention, adding that the accomplishments are continuing in line with the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 by carrying out programs and projects to develop infrastructure and public buildings in the country so that Qatar is one of the most advanced countries in the world in this field. Al Watan hailed the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), which manages and implements many projects, for following best practices in infrastructure development and management, especially concerning the highway program, which includes some of the largest and most modern projects, and the infrastructure program for the regions, which provides many road and infrastructure projects in the local areas, in addition to projects to modernize and establish sewage networks and stations. For its part, the English-language newspaper The Peninsula highlighted the efforts of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) to transform Qatar's healthcare sector and play an important role at the international level. In its editorial on Saturday titled "Global Recognition," the newspaper said that the Ministry, in recent years, has won many international accolades for its endeavors and successive achievements. The Peninsula pointed out that the election of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) of the State of Qatar as President of the Board at its 153rd session for one year is an acknowledgment by the Member States of the leading role played by the State of Qatar at the international level, and its strong support for the WHO in performing its mission of promoting health and wellness for all. The paper added that during the World Health Assembly meetings, the Qatari delegation, headed by HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, was elected to membership in the Executive Board of the World Health Organization as a representative of the Eastern Mediterranean Region for three years. The Peninsula noted that HE the Public Health Minister confirmed that Qatar will work closely with the Member States and the WHO's governing bodies to implement the WHO goals and achieve universal health coverage.
