Doha, June 06 (QNA) - In their editorials issued Tuesday, Qatari newspapers highlighted the visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani Monday to Uzbekistan, which represents a new and strong stage in strengthening relations between the two countries and developing areas of cooperation in the interest of the two friendly peoples.
The newspapers unanimously agreed that Doha and Tashkent represent a strategic and vital depth for each other, as the Qatari-Uzbek distinguished relations are rooted in history and have always been an example to follow. There is no doubt that the results of the talks will consolidate them and transform them from bilateral cooperation relations into a strategic partnership in various fields.
Under the title "Supporting Qatari-Uzbek Relations", Al-Watan newspaper said that in November 1997, a protocol was signed to establish diplomatic relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Uzbekistan at the ambassadorial level. Since then, the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries have witnessed growing development in recent years, thanks to the desire and keenness of the leadership of both countries to consolidate and enhance these relations and to develop them in all fields in the service of common aspirations, interests and goals, as well as the security, peace and stability in the region and the world.
Both countries share good and distinguished relations at all levels, the paper said, pointing out that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's visit aims to give these relations a strong boost and open more doors for their development in various fields. It also paves the way for expanding the scope of friendship and cooperation, and opens up to new and promising sectors, especially in the economic and trade domains, as well as ambitious investment partnerships. This is achieved through agreements aimed at supporting and developing relations between the two countries in various fields, serving the goals, aspirations and interests of both countries and their friendly peoples, the newspaper noted.
It stressed the keenness of the Qatari and Uzbek leaderships on cooperation based on mutual interests in various fields, especially within the framework of regional and international organizations, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the United Nations and others. The two leaderships look forward to establishing comprehensive and long-term cooperation, as well as developing relations based on the principles of mutual respect.
Al-Watan concluded by saying that the Qatari-Uzbek relations are governed by a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding. The mutual visits between the two countries at various levels have contributed to the development of relations and increased coordination in various fields. These achievements will serve as a foundation for further progress, meeting the shared aspirations of the two friendly countries.
For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper said under the headline "Prospects of Cooperation with Uzbekistan" that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's visit to Uzbekistan on Monday represents a new and strong phase in enhancing relations between the two countries and developing areas of cooperation that serve the interests of the two friendly peoples. The paper also noted that officials and the media in Tashkent have shown great interest in HH's visit.
This visit is expected to yield immediate practical results by opening a Qatari embassy in Tashkent, which helps accelerate the pace of economic and investment cooperation and allows businessmen in the two countries to enter into successful investments, the newspaper said.
During this tour by HH the Amir, Qatar Chamber (QC) host many meetings with trade delegations from Central Asian countries, which are looking to enhance cooperation between Qatari companies and their counterparts in these countries, and to discuss the investment climate and investment opportunities available on both sides, as the Qatari private sector is looking to enhance cooperation with its counterpart in Uzbekistan and establish commercial and economic partnerships and alliances between Qatari and Uzbek companies, which will benefit both countries, Al-Sharq added.
HH the Amir toured on Monday evening a number of museums and historical sites in the city of Samarkand. His Highness and HE the Uzbek President listened to an explanation about the history of the Observatory of Ulugbek and its role in the development of astronomical sciences among Muslims. During their visit to the Afrasiyab Museum, they were briefed on the most prominent archaeological holdings and artifacts, which document the most important historical highlights of the city of Samarkand, and the various archaeological areas of Uzbekistan, the newspaper said.
Al-Sharq concluded by saying that HH the Amir and HE the Uzbek President visited Registan Square and listened to an explanation about the history of civilization and Islamic and experimental sciences in and around Samarkand, and concluded their tour with a visit to the Eternal City, where they were briefed on the most prominent customs and heritage traditions that the Uzbek people adhere to since ancient times. 
 
In its editorial, Al-Raya affirmed that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's tour of a number of Central Asian countries, which began Monday with a visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, launches a new phase and promising prospects for strategic partnerships between Qatar and the Central Asian region in the light of Doha's endeavour to strengthen strategic alliances with Asian countries.
HH the Amir and HE President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev toured yesterday evening a number of museums and historical sites in the city of Samarkand. During the tour, His Highness also was briefed on the history of civilization and Islamic and experimental sciences in and around Samarkand, and the most prominent customs and heritage traditions that the Uzbek people adhere to since ancient times, the paper said
The paper pointed out that Qatar and Uzbekistan enjoy close, prosperous and deep-rooted relations, based on mutual trust and respect and on common destiny and heritage, noting that these relations are wide-ranging and multifaceted cooperation relations covering a variety of areas, including politics, trade, economy, investment and cultural exchange.
    The forthcoming bilateral talks between HH and HE the President of Uzbekistan would launch a new phase of strategic cooperation in various areas, especially in the economic, trade and investment fields, the paper said, stressing that this will give a strong impetus to the existing cooperation between the two countries and achieve further joint accomplishments. The summit talks between the two countries are expected to witness the signing of agreements aimed at supporting and developing relations between the two countries in various fields in order to serve the goals, aspirations and interests of the two countries and their friendly peoples, the paper added.
    Al-Raya concluded by saying that Doha and Tashkent represent a strategic and vital depth for each other, as Qatari-Uzbek relations are deeply rooted in history and have always been an example to follow, noting that the outcome of the talks will undoubtedly consolidate and transform these relations from bilateral cooperation to strategic partnership in various areas, especially since the two countries' leaderships are keen to continue to support and strengthen these relations in various areas. Qatar and Uzbekistan are willing to make such relations a model of cooperation and strategic partnership in the Asian region.
In another context, English-language newspaper The Peninsula said that the State of Qatar joined the rest of the world to mark World Environment Day, noting that the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change highlighted the dangers of plastic pollution to the environment and animals in their ecosystems. 
In its editorial entitled "Qatar for environmental sustainability", the paper said that the Ministry of Municipality noted that Qatar is leading the way towards a greener future by promoting environmentally friendly practices, zero waste campaigns, hosting conferences and recycling programmes, sustainable cooperation, banning single-use plastic bags and several initiatives in this regard.
    In April and in coordination with other agencies, the Ministry distributed over 20,000 eco-friendly, biodegradable and multi-use bags under the month-long campaign 'No for Plastic' to educate companies and people about the ministerial decision No. 143 of 2022 regulating the use of plastic bags. 
The Peninsula concluded its editorial by saying that raising awareness about the detrimental impact of plastic pollution on the environment and promoting actions to reduce plastic waste has become paramount. (QNA)
