Qatar's Minister Of Labour: Outputs Of ILC Will Contribute To Supporting Efforts To Achieve A Better World Of Work

Geneva, June 16 (QNA) - HE Minister of Labour and Chairperson of the 111th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) said that Qatar's appointment as the presiding nation of the Conference reaffirms its steadfast commitment and eagerness to foster cooperative and multilateral actions towards sustainable development goals. He expressed gratitude to the organization's member states for their confidence in Qatar's ability to preside over the conference. Addressing the closing session of the 111st ILC in Geneva, HE Dr. Al Marri emphasized the unique role of the International Labour Conference as a platform facilitating dialogue and collective action among governments and social partners, aimed at addressing current work-related issues. Despite some hurdles, he noted the 111th Labour Conference managed to successfully achieve its ambitious objectives, owing to the unified efforts of all participants. His Excellency noted that the 111th session of the conference and its committees led to important outputs, the implementation of which will contribute to supporting the efforts of the organization and member states to achieve a better world of work. He explained that the discussions carried out by the Committee on Apprenticeships embodied the power of social dialogue and achieved remarkable results through negotiations characterized by vitality, cooperation and exchange of experiences. He also pointed to the increasing importance of promoting good apprenticeships as it addresses the challenges of the developed world of work, as it will serve as a valuable guide for member states in setting policies And effective laws and regulations in order to promote good apprenticeships. Advancing the just transition of the economy has become necessary to achieve social justice, decent living conditions and eradicate poverty, His Excellency stated. HE the Minister of Labour noted that the ILO guidelines for a just transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all are considered a central reference. for policy-making and provide a solid foundation for actionable steps, pointing out that the repeated discussion to emphasize the importance of labour protection highlighted its essential role in achieving gender equality, social justice and reducing inequalities, while also contributing to sustainable enterprises, productivity gains and economic development. His Excellency explained that the 111th session of the International Labour Conference approved the organization's program and budget for the period 2024-2025, praising the spirit of cooperation and flexibility through which a consensual solution was reached that confirms the ILO's approach based on constructive dialogue. His Excellency the Minister praised the World of Work Summit entitled "Social Justice for All", which witnessed the participation of 16 heads of state and government, and 22 participants from representatives of international organizations, ministers and social partners from various regions, noting that it discussed various issues related to social justice, including the proposal of the director year to form a global coalition for social justice. His Excellency expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Vice-President for Governments Corina Ajdar, Vice-President for Employers Henrik Munthe, Vice-President for Workers Mohamed Zahoor, and HE Director-General of the Organization Gilbert Houngbo for his wise administration and his efforts to provide the required support Three component bodies. His Excellency congratulated the heads and members of the tripartite delegations for their positive participation and constructive spirit during the discussions, which once again demonstrated the importance of social dialogue and cooperation between production parties in shaping the future of work, in accordance with the established goals and principles of the International Labour Organization. 
Government, employer, and worker representatives have commended both the International Labour Organization and its Director General for Qatar's successful leadership of the 111th session of the International Labour Conference. They lauded the event's achievement of its goals, such as global work environment enhancement, creation of social justice, and decent job opportunity recommendations. Participants in the Conference highlighted the challenges presented by recent global crises. They further stated the conference's adoption of the equal apprenticeship recommendation is pivotal for fostering a just economic transition. The last session of the conference witnessed final speeches by HE Director General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert Houngbo, Vice-Chairman of the Conference as a representative of the Employers' Team Henrique Munthe, Vice-Chairman of the Conference as a representative of the Workers' Team Zahoor Awan and Vice-President of the Conference as a representative of the governments Corina Ajdir. The speakers extended their thanks and appreciation to HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri for his good management of the conference and reaching the desired goals. The International Labour Conference (ILC), or what is known as the International Parliament of Labour, is held annually in Geneva to set the general policies of the International Labour Organization (ILO), including agreements and recommendations. The ILC is the highest decision-making authority in the ILO and provides an effective platform through which governments and employers' and workers' organizations of member states can hold tripartite discussions on social and Labour issues. This year's conference agenda entailed an evaluation of the Director General's report on the progress of social justice, a report scrutinizing the circumstances of workers in the occupied Arab territories, reports on apprenticeships and gender parity, laborer's social protection, and strategies to facilitate a fair transition towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies for everyone. Each member state's delegation to the conference is composed of government delegates, a representative of employers, a representative of workers, alongside their advisors. Representatives of employers and workers are chosen in concurrence with the most representative national organizations of employers and workers. State leaders and prime ministers from member states annually partake in the conference, while international and governmental organizations among others join as observers. (QNA)
