Kazakhstan pupils win 6 medals on international maths competition
ASTANA, 24 July (Khabar) - Kazakhstan pupils who participated in an international maths competition which took place in Spain have won one gold, two silver and three bronze medals. This is the first time that all members of the team, which includes 6 pupils from different cities of Kazakhstan, received medal places. The winner of the gold medal is 16 year old Pavlodar resident Yegor Klochkov.
Yegor Klochkov, Olympiad golden medal winner: - I didn't expect to receive a gold medal. Although this year's tasks were easier, it was still difficult to receive gold.
Apart from the gold medal, Kazakhstan's team won 2 silver and 3 bronze medals and cam in at 25th place. Among the CIS countries, Kazakhstan was in third place after Russia and Ukraine which is a significant victory for the country.
Dulat Kasenov, father:- When they were leaving for the competition, we hoped they would get medal places. This is the result of their hard work.
Yeskendir Kasenov, Competition bronze medal winner:- I am happy to raise the image of the country by this method and to show my knowledge on the international scene.
These pupils will receive university education grants and next year another team will go to the competition to win medal places and in 2010, Kazakhstan will host the 51st international competition for school children.
