Medical Tourism tops agenda at Dubai Health Regulation and Medical Tourism Conference

DUBAI, 5th October, 2016 (WAM) -- The second Dubai Health Regulation and Medical Tourism Conference, which opened on Tuesday, brought together professionals involved in the medical tourism industry to explore the many opportunities for expanding Dubai’s role as a global hub for medical tourism and the development of DHX - Dubai health experience programme. The two-day conference organised by the Dubai Health Authority aims to discuss the latest advances in health regulations and ways to strengthen regulatory mechanisms to ensure high-quality healthcare and patient safety. The conference will discuss regulations for medical tourism and the World Health Tourism Conference and will facilitate a networking session on Wednesday. More than 500 participants and high-level officials including the president of the International Organisation of Medical Tourism, president of the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities (IAMRA), Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Ministry of Health and Prevention, Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD), Emirates Medical Association, and World Health Regulatory Authorities, are attending the conference. "In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and in line with the directions of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the heath sector in the Emirate has undergone tremendous growth. Health regulations are very important to ensure we provide high-quality care and patient safety. Dubai has a strong health regulation framework and this has helped ensure quality healthcare which in itself is a catalyst for medical tourism," said Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority. "Health regulations are the cornerstone to achieve high quality services and patient safety. The conference provides an opportunity for stakeholders to compare regulatory models, examine ways of promoting best practices in regulatory governance and performance, discuss the latest advances in the field and facilitates knowledge exchange. The conference will provide participants with insights, perspectives and an opportunity to discuss current challenges in health professional and healthcare facilities regulation," said Dr Layla Al Marzouqi, Director of Health Regulation at the Medical Tourism Project at the DHA. The conference will also discuss importance of accreditation to improve patient safety, and consequently better care delivery systems.
