Over 300,000 Thai children suffer ADHD

BANGKOK, December 10 (TNA) - Thailand’s Mental Health Department said on Monday over 300,000 primary school students in the country suffered hyper-activity disorders (ADHD). In a study involving up to five million children, about 310,000 of them or 6.5% were identified as ADHD sufferers. Deputy Public Health Minister Cholanan Srikaew said the distressing figure was clearly above the 5 percent world average. Experts said two-thirds or about 70% of untreated ADHD patients could carry the disorder onto their adulthood. A quarter of them could become highly aggressive, while one-tenth could opt into drug abuse or develop mental disorders and attempt suicide. (TNA)
