Sultan sets up Sharjah Health Care City
Sharjah, April 11, 2012 (WAM) - H. H. Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council member and ruler of Sharjah has issued emiri decree No. 26/ 2012 setting up the Sharjah Health Care City (SHCC) as a health and medical free zone supervised by Sharjah Health Authority. SHCC will be a corporate body with full financial and administrative and full competence to initiate legal procedures, according to the new decree.
The new decree which will be published in the official gazette is of immediate effect and abolishes any ruling that is in conflict with its terms and conditions.
The new body in Sharjah aims to, among other things, to promote Sharjah as an international hub for health care and services and other relating activities, establish hospitals, medical and healthcare and pharmaceutical companies, establishments and centres for supplementary treatment, physiotherapy and massage, medical advice, medical logistics and any IT activities relating to healthcare industry.
Among the powers given to SHCC, in compliance with the local and federal legislations, are construction of infrastructure, establishing projects such as infrastructure, administrative support and relating services. These include hospitals, consultant and diagnosis centres, organ transplantation and rehabilitation centres, health resorts and spas (social, sports, Yoga and supplementary treatment centres), medical equipment and pharmaceutical companies, IT industry and any services relating to healthcare industry, medical and health logistics and any supportive services.
The government of Sharjah shall not be responsible or liable to, whether directly or indirectly, any debts or commitments by SHCC or affiliate companies and establishments, according to the new decree. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
