Mongolian women tennis team advances 14 spots at world ranking

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/The Mongolian women team stood at 57th at world ranking after the 2014 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Tokyo, Japan. At the beginning of the world championships in Tokyo, the women team had been placed 71st and put into the third division in Group I to compete against Kazakhstan, Guatemala, Salvador, Caledonia and Azerbaijan. With group matches results of three wins and two losses, the team was placed third in Group I and earned a right to play for 49th-60th places. After winning over Sri Lanka 3:0 and losing to Indonesia 1:3, the Mongolian women finished the tournament with a great success of advancing their ranking 14 spots from 71st to 57th. The men team of Mongolia played against Peru, Angola, Bahrain, Mauritius and Philippines in the fourth division in Group N to reach two wins and three loses. With those results, the Mongolian men granted to be placed between 85th and 92nd in the world ranking. Then, with successive two wins over Azerbaijan and Mauritius, the Mongolian table tennis men team achieved a great success in advancing their ranking 17 spots to 85th from 102nd. The 2014 World Team Table Tennis Championships took place in Tokyo from 28 April to 5 May 2014. The Championships was staged in Japan for the seventh time and become the 52nd edition of the team competition. The Chinese men and women teams achieved gold medals in the championships, followed by Germany (men) and Japan (women). Bronze medals went to Chinese Taiwan, Japan in the men’s category, and Singapore and Hong Kong in the women’s category.
