MPM To Announce Asean Para Mini Sports Championship Soon

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia) July 24 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Paralympic Council (MPM) will hold a meeting with the Sarawak government soon to discuss further on the organisation of the ASEAN Para Mini Sports championship scheduled to take place in March next year. MPM president, Megat D Shahriman Zaharudin said a working paper on the para team championship had been submitted to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak. ‘’We are now waiting for a response from the Sarawak government and I will be meeting its minister, Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah within this month too. He is positive about the planning of the event. ‘’MPM will announce the date, events and the actual name of the championship upon receiving the final word from the Sarawak government,’’ he told reporters after an MPM friendly gathering with the Selangor Boccia Association here, Thursday. Also present at the event was Senator Ras Adiba Mohd Radzi who is also founder and chairman of a non-government organisation, OKU Central. The organisation of the championship was to replace the 2020 ASEAN Para Sports in the Philippines in October which had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. Commenting further, Megat Shahriman said MPM would also be inviting other Asean countries to participate in the championship, involving seven team events, which would be held in Kuching, Sarawak. In the meantime, he hoped the Ministry of Youth and Sports would provide more funds to MPM due to the increase in the number of para athletes currently. -- BERNAMA
