Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ An international master of sports Ts.Naranjargal won a silver medal at the women's -70 kg contest in the Judo World Cup competitions held last weekend in Sofia, Bulgaria. Organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), the Sofia's World Cup brought together 193 female judoists from 43 countries. Mongolia was represented there by D.Symya and T.Battogs (57 kg). Ts.Naranjargal defeated her rivals from Puerto Rico, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea and the Netherlands. She was beaten by a Tunisian judoka Houda Milede at the final contest. Meanwhile, male judoists took part in the World Cup tournament held last weekend in Tbilisi, Georgia. No one of them won a medal. ** ** ** Female wrestlers grabbed medals in the Golden Grand Prix named after twice-Olympic champion Ivan Yarygin held on January 26-29 in Krasnoyarsk, Russia. A State Honored Sportswoman O.Burmaa won a silver medal at the 72 kg contest after defeating three wrestlers from Russia and the USA. She was defeated by her Bulgarian opponent Stanka Zlateva, a five-time World champion. This is the second silver for her at this tournament. Another Mongolian T.Monkhtuya won a bronze medal at the women's 59 kg. She had a bye on the first round and then defeated a Russian wrestler. ** ** ** Sambo wrestlers of the state selected team successfully competed in the Sambo World Cup tournament held last weekend in Uralsk city, Kazakhstan. Headed by E.Monkh-Ochir, the president of the Mongolia's Sambo Wrestling Federation; J.Bayarsaikhan, a general coach; and Enkhbayar, a coach, the Mongolians grabbed two silver medals. Organized by the International Sambo Wrestling Federation (FIAS), the tournament attracted over 230 wrestlers of 20 countries. After the tournament, Mr. E.Monkh-Ochir has been appointed as the vice president of the Asian Sambo Wrestling Federation. B.Khuder
