Winter Asian Games 2011 preparations
Kuwait, March 17, 2009 (Khabar) - Hosting the Asian Games of 2011 is a good chance for Kazakhstan to bid for the Winter Olympic Games, announced the president of International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge in Kuwait city where the sports congress of the Asian Olympic Committee took place and the new headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia was presented.
Kazakhstan has 2 years ahead of the event to conduct the Winter Asiad properly and expenses for the 2011 Asian Winter Games won’t be cut in accordance with the government’s decision. 11 kinds of sports were included in the Asian Games program, 2 of which will be held in Astana.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, President of Olympic Council of Asia:
- We trust Kazakhstan as the organizer of Winter Asian games and we trust the leader of Kazakhstan as he supports the sports sphere very much. We will cooperate with the organizing committee by all means in order to make sure that the Asiad which will be held in Kazakhstan in 2011 will be one of the best Winter Asiads ever.
Temirkhan Dosmukhambetov, Minister for Tourism and Sports of RK:
- Kazakhstan will try to be ranked second or third at Winter Asian Games. It is very difficult for us to compete with China but we’ll try to share second or third place with Japan. The preparation works are being underway; we’ve assembled the coaching council on Winter sports and carried out a sitting so the preparation goes pretty well.
The opening ceremony for the new headquarters of the Olympic Council of Asia was celebrated with a spectacular show.
