Norway Tourist Queued Up Since 4am To Grab Samsung S7 Edge

By Syed Iylia Hariz Al-Qadri Syed Izman KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 (Bernama) -- A tourist from Norway arrived in Malaysia on Thursday, only to have his attention grabbed by a newspaper advertisement on the launch and sale of Samsung's latest mobile phone. Nicklas Hystad needed no prodding. Since 4 Friday morning, he made a beeline to wait at the KLCC entrance - to lay his hands on the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. Hystad, 21, who has been a Samsung phone user since 2012, was simply excited with the magnificient phone which inadvertently, disrupted his plan to tour Malaysia for a couple of days. "I have long waited to grab the phone but Norway has yet to launch the product. "Samsung is the best, and I was really looking forward to this day when I could replace my old phone (Samsung S5) to S7 edge. "It was a sudden move because I never expected to buy this phone here but when I read they are selling it today, I realised I needed to get that phone today," he told Bernama after purchasing the phone at KLCC here Friday. At the launch of the new Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung offers fans an exclusive deal in which the first 2,000 customers across seven locations in Malaysia who bought the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge on Friday will receive a complimentary 'Samsung Gear VR' (worth US$113.30). Meanwhile, Samsung Malaysia Electronics IT and Mobile vice-president Lee Jui Siang said the turnout for the Galaxy S7 edge on Friday was beyond expectations. There were even foreigners queuing up for the phone, he said. "As of that, we aim to continue providing everyone quality service and do our best to ensure favourable experience for everyone," he told Bernama. First unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event in Barcelona last month, the Galaxy S7 edge is powered by an in-house Exynos 8890 octa-core processor and features 4GB of RAM. The phone is now equppied with larger screen at 5.5in, putting it between the S6 edge (5.1in) and S6 edge+ (5.7in), while maintaining the QHD Super Amoled display (made out of 3D Glass and metal) with 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. The camera has always been a key part of Galaxy smartphones as the Galaxy S7 edge introduces the first dual-pixel camera for brighter and sharper images. Along with phase detect autofocus and optical image stabilisation, it is fair to say the S7 Edge has one of the most powerful cameras in a smartphone today. The Galaxy S7 edge comes in three colour options -- black onyx, silver titanium and gold platinum. Samsung smartphones are now the market leader worldwide and have a strong position in Malaysia. --BERNAMA
