Public forum highlights progress of UAE peaceful nuclear energy programme

ABU DHABI, 20th May (WAM) – The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), organised on Wednesday a public forum at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (ADNEC), which was attended by around 220 residents. The forum, held as part of the ENEC’s on-going commitment to community engagement, shone a light on the importance of nuclear energy as a safe, clean, reliable and efficient source of electricity and its vital contribution to the long-term growth of the UAE. ENEC's officials fielded questions by the audience on the progress of the programme and the ENEC's efforts to attract and retain national talent. ENEC’s Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Al Hammadi described the UAE's peaceful nuclear energy programme as "a historic scheme for the country and for its future." "We look forward to continuing our progress in a transparent manner as we move ahead to the next milestones," he added. A presentation by a group of engineers from the ENEC highlighted the reasons peaceful nuclear energy was selected by the government to be a key source of power supply, comparing this form of energy to other carbon generating energy sources. The audience had the opportunity to hear an update on the plant’s progress, as well as specific information about how a nuclear power plant operates. The forums also included an open Q&A session. -– Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395295690274.html
