Motorcycle Expedition Should Be Promoted As New Tourism Product - Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- Motorcycle expedition should be promoted as a new tourism product for Malaysia as it provides an opportunity for riders e worldwide to enjoy the natural beauty of the country. Tourism and Culture Minister Mohamed Nazri Aziz said today, new and creative ideas should be implemented in an effort to attract 26 million tourists this year and make a success of Visit Malaysia Year 2014. "Malaysia's beautiful landscape can be better appreciated via motorcycle expedition," he said after the launch of 1Malaysia World Traveler and 1Malaysia World Endurance Ride 2013 by Prime Minister Najib Razak here. Commenting on the disclosure by the National Heritage Department that syndicates are stealing sunken treasures worth millions of ringgit, Mohamed Nazri said it is an offence as treasures discovered off Malaysia'a coast are deemed government property. Bernama on Wednesday reported that relics, including gold and diamonds from at least 67 sunken ships off the coast of southern states of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, East Malaysia state of Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia's east coast state of Pahang are being stolen by syndicates. Mohamed Nazri said he will hold discussions with Home Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi so that appropriate action including control of areas with sunken ships can be done. - BERNAMA
