Turkey's first electric car 'Etox' to be released in 3 months
ANKARA (A.A) - The manufacturer of Turkey's first sports car, "Etox", is getting prepared to release the vehicle's electric version in three months.
In an interview with AA on Monday, Ercan Malkoc, manufacturer of Etox and owner of Erteks Auto Decoration, said that the first fully Turkish-made electric car would be ready in the upcoming days.
Malkoc said the new electric Etox would be able to reach a speed of 120 km/h and travel 250 km with a filled tank in the first phase.
Noting that 4 Turkish firms currently developed engines for the electric car, Malkoc said another national company was also working on a battery.
Malkoc said the prototype would be ready in three months time.
"We are planning to sell the electric Etox for 30,000-35,000 Turkish liras (19,000-22,000 USD)," he said.
Describing electric cars as economical vehicles, Malkoc said one battery could be charged for 10 U.S. dollars and could last for 250 km.
"This is nearly 90 percent cheaper compared to present fuel prices," he noted.
Asking for the prime minister's support for the electric Etox, Malkoc said they could begin serial production in a year if the necessary assistance was extended.
Turkey's first sports car "Etox" made its first debut in August 2007.
The 4-cylinder car has a maximum speed of 185 km/h and can reach 100 km/h of speed within 13 seconds.
A designer, two mechanical engineers, an aircraft engineer and 20 technical engineers worked in the production process of the Etox.
The car successfully passed 33 separate tests applied by the Istanbul Technical University Department of Automotive and the Automotive Technologies Research & Development Center. The car also received the ERT40 automobile license given by the Turkish Ministry of Industry & Trade in 2007.
In "ETOX", E stands for Erteks, T for Turkey, O for automotive, X for indefiniteness and eternity.
Co-owned by Turkish Armed Forces Pension Fund, Oyak, and French automotive giant, Renault, Oyak Renault first introduced its Fluence Z.E. concept electric version at Frankfurt Auto Show in 2009.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan tested Turkey's first electric car, the Fluence Z.E., in December 2010.
Electric cars are now being produced at Oyak Renault factories in Bursa province. Renault has been operating in Turkey for 40 years. Oyak Renault plant has built 15 different models so far, mostly in mid-size compact cars. The company has also recently announced that it would begin exporting electric version of its Fluence saloon car to European countries including France, Denmark and Portugal in 2011.
