June's Inflation Recorded At 0.43 Pct
Jakarta, July 1 (Antara) - The inflation rate was recorded at 0.43 percent in June, lower than the same period last year, which was at 1.03 percent, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) noted here on Tuesday.
"This year`s inflation recorded in June was the lowest in the past four years," BPS Head Suryamin stated.
The 0.43 percent inflation in June has contributed to the inflation from January to June, this year, at 1.99 percent month-on-month or 6.7 percent year-on-year.
The core inflation in June meanwhile was recorded at 0.25 percent or 4.81 percent year-on-year.
June`s inflation in 2010 was recorded at 0.97 percent, 2011 at 0.55 percent, 2012 at 0.62 percent, and in 2013 at 1.03 percent.
According to Suryamin, inflation in June, this year, was relatively low as compared to the past four years due to the government`s success in controlling the prices of basic necessities ahead of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadhan.
"This has happened due to price control efforts by the government ahead of Ramadhan," he pointed out.
Suryamin pointed out that food prices were the biggest contributors to the inflation in June reaching 0.19 percent followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuels at 0.09 percent and the group of processed foods, beverages, cigarettes, and tobacco at 0.06 percent.
"Foods such as chicken and eggs still contribute to the inflation, while the housing sector has contributed due to the effects of the electricity price hike," he claimed.
Besides this, clothing, health, education, recreation, and sports contributed 0.01 percent, while transportation, communication, and financial services contributed 0.02 percent to the inflation in the month.
Out of the 82 cities outlined for computing the Consumer Price Index, 76 cities recorded inflation while only six recorded deflation.
The highest inflation was recorded in Ternate at 1.29 percent and the lowest in Tual at 0.06 percent.
The highest deflation meanwhile was recorded in Maumere at 0.72 percent and the lowest in Pematang Siantar at 0.09 percent.
